Once again, the teams of the Greater Amman Municipality (GAM) raised a state of controversy, anger and discontent among the Jordanians through social media, for their method of removal and confiscation of random stalls, amid questions about the fate of the confiscated items, including pet birds.

In footage taken by Roya of the downtown area in Amman, GAM teams were seen conducting removal campaigns once more with the support of security services.

They confiscated and removed stalls in prohibited areas.

Despite the justification provided by the GAM, the behavior of the inspection teams was condemned among Jordanians and residents online.

They wondered about the fate of the goods taken by the GAM, who were throwing them into vehicles, while mixing different items with no measures that would preserve them.

Activists claimed that the GAM workers would keep a lot of these goods to themselves.

Roya attempted to verify this information with GAM, but no official responses were given.

The GAM claims that it applies the relevant laws and regulations when dealing with unlicensed random stalls, noting that these random stalls impede the movement of pedestrians on sidewalks and the movement of cars on the roads, posing a threat to the public health and safety of citizens.

They pointed out that the removal campaigns, which are demanded by both merchants and citizens, are ongoing and aim to preserve public health, as many of these random and unlicensed stalls deal with foodstuffs without health requirements, which poses risks, especially in the summer months and in light of the pandemic.
